days like these....

I'm absolutely disgusted to be a woman.

Hibernated at home the whole day. I think I spent half of that in the toilet. Ugh.

I start the pill on Friday, so thank god for that.

And thank god for liberal pharmacies in Thailand :D

I've been fiddling with Photobucket, and found a much easier way to get my photos up here. So more Thailand photos should be up soon! Plus Biennale photos.

Hmm, despite my nifty wire mesh handiwork on the cage, Stalin the slinky fucker found yet ANOTHER way out. So now i'm watching the cage... Waiting for him to reveal his little escape route.....

why i cannot work in a restaurant.

Last night as I tucked into my crabmeat linguine at Wild Rocket, making jokes with ex-colleagues and stealing some of the boy's lamb shank, I finally realised exactly why I cannot do restaurant work.

I love food too much.

I love it too much to be serving it to other people.

I mean, once my shift is over I get over it. But those 5 hour split shifts can really take it out of me.

Oh, the crabmeat linguine was fan-fucking-tastic! Super yummy I could've had another serving but that's just pushing it.

part 2 NOT up yet

I tried to extend the validity of my passport so I could apply for my student visa, but no, I just HAD to apply for the goddamn biometric passport.

There go all my lovely immigration chops.... Heathrow, Gatwick, Siem Reap, Chiangmai, and like a gazillion Malaysia chops, courtesy of all our JB makan trips. I thought that passport would be a memorable one.

Okay well, i'm hoping to travel a lot over the next 5-6 years, and much more subsequently, so no matter.

;

I finally watched REC in the cinema! My life is almost complete. At first, it was just us two in the cinema, for the 2.20am show at GV Plaza Singapura. Luckily for us (more so him than me) we were joined by 4 more people.

It was what... my 3rd time watching this show? And it still freaked me out. Especially the ending - which Quarantine completely RUINED in their trailer. I cannot emphasize any more how much Quarantine is shit. From an excellent Spanish zombie movie to Hollywood trash. If you must watch Quarantine, at least watch REC first. I think the original deserves that much.

Hopped on a night rider home after that, and bumped into Ernie on the bus! I miss that idiot actually.

Yesterday night was madness at Danesh's house. Was just a casual gathering of drinks and card games and smokes, and it turned hysterical. Najib fell off his chair laughing too much, and made us all laugh even more. Made some cool new friends too. Hopefully this becomes a regular thing cos it's really mad fun.

I'm so happy I met so many lovely people this week. Especially Yigang and Maya! Watching Tropic Thunder a 2nd time was so worth it, and it was really good to see you happy Maya! <3 you fuh-eva BFF!

And mr hip heppenin' fit NSman Iggy, I hope you'll never get tired of me ranting about the whole world. I REALLY miss meeting you at random times of the night. When I get my license you will be one of the select few that can play your own music in the car.

Everyone else will be subjected to my awesome tunes, unless you want to walk. HEHEH
(talking as if I already passed tsk tsk)

back to GMT +8

I miss Chiangmai. I miss the lovely Thai and Shan people. And the new friends that I had to leave behind. I miss the chilly non-humid weather. I miss waking up every morning and having breakfast with THE most spectacular view!

I learned the importance of cleaning my lenses only AFTER this trip.

I was absolutely miserable at first - with the teachers giving me a hard time and having nobody my age to talk to. But luckily the first hotel we stayed in in the city had wireless in every room. Still, I was bored.

2nd day we left the city and drove up north to the Maekok River Village Resort, stopping by the Chiangdao Caves.

It was pretty spectacular. If I wasn't always on the move i'd have taken much better photos of the place. The caves are pitch black with random 20m drops and tunnels you have to get on your hands and knees to get through. So ladies with kerosene lamps take us around. Only problem is that if she moves too far ahead.... You lose the only source of light and suddenly you can't see where you're placing your feet.

After what felt like an hour of navigating, crawling and falling all over the place, we finally made our way to the MRVR.

The location is breathtaking, surrounded by mountains and along the Maekok river. Thaton is the nearest town but there isn't much to do. The teachers refused to let the kids shop either, so they relied on 3 hilltribe ladies who set up shop next to the resort every day and fleece the students for all they're worth.

The resort is divided into two parts. The actual resort area and the student centre. The resort consists of many private villas, all of which have the view of the mountains and river. They have their own pool and restaurant, and the students are not allowed in those areas.

The student centre consists of dormitories, each with 6 beds, 2 toilets and air con. They've got their own pool and restaurant, as well as a volleyball court, ping pong tables, a basketball court cum assault course cum archery range, and teachers stay in their own lovely rooms on the 2nd floor. They've also got a Bamboo Club, a place that sells snacks and drinks, has a twister mat painted onto the floor and a pool table, to prevent kids from wandering out of the resort at night especially because it gets too dark and quite dangerous.

My cosy little room -

The resort villas look like chalets, but the interior's much much nicer.

After lunch at the resort, the Geog instructor from the UK, Rhys, tells us we have a mountain hike afterwards. He was too quiet. So it was difficult to try and be his friend at first. Haha.

So we boarded Song Taews (something like a Thai taxi, but more fun) that drove us up the mountain, but afterwards we had to hike down. The view from the top looked like something out of Madagascar... Or Tarzan.

Wat Thaton medallions.

And the other side of the mountain, the view of the town.

Song Taews to take us back to the resort.

Part 2 up soon! If i'm not too lazy to do it. Blogger is an EPIC FAIL with photo posts.

sigh

I thought i'd be looking forward to Chiangmai - David told me to just have fun. But I have a feeling the teachers won't go easy on me. The flight's at 2.55pm, and one messaged me at 7am asking if I had any luggage tags for the group. Gah, i'm so lazy to go. But I gave David my word.

Gotta be at the airport in about 3 hours.. And i'm bringing ribbons as luggage tags.

dickbutt

Some guy actually got a tattoo of this.

i swear to god

If I ever hear a mat-rock's lorry horn honk to the tune La Cucaracha, or some other cheesy tune like that ONE MORE TIME.

I will throw an angry Rasputin at them.

for some reason, periods sometimes work in our favour

Photobucket

Haha, what an ad.

I don't know what to put here

I've been having the best few weeks yet. Spending money like water but you know what? I can fuckin' afford it. But i'll cap it somewhere, at some point. Still got my end of year target to meet and i'm about a k or two away from it.

Man, I wish I was giving the amount of tuition i've been giving for the past 2 months, for the past year. I'd have money coming out of my backside. But let's not be bitter.

It's come to almost a year of doing pretty much uh, nothing.

Now it's coming to an end. My year-long holiday. And the nearer it gets, I feel like my life has reached a bottleneck. Then again, this wouldn't be a problem if I could get my ass to bed earlier, ergo, getting my ass out of bed earlier in the MORNING instead of the afternoon. Heh. Ugh.

I will be off to Chiangmai next Monday for a week. David Chandra - the man behind manymany OCIPs (TPJC's OCIP Cambodia 06 included) and other miscellaneous school trips to various parts of Indochina, and more recently India, called me up some time ago asking me if I was free in November to take his place for one particular trip.

Since I was free, and the trip is 100% free (weee!) I agreed. So next week i'll be accompanying the Sec 3 Geography students and 3 teachers of Jun Man Secondary to Chiangmai for 7 days, and back. Only downside is, i'll be completely alone. Feeling slightly jittery about it, especially after David sent me some insurance documents for the participants, and its heading read "CONCERNING THE LIVES OF 33 PERSONS".

But David arranged for some people to show me the ropes, and help me make sure things are in order. I'll be FINE.

Only problem is that I might get my PERIOD URGH I hope it comes this week. So it'll come and go before the trip, and there won't be the off chance I can't bring a kid to a clinic or something or can't hike up a hill cos SOLLY AH GOT MENSES CRAMp

These past 2 weeks have been really good to me. And so have you. Thank you so much, for making it a point to make my last couple of months before Melbourne something unforgettable. I don't quite know if it's the perfect way to say goodbye? But right now I know it could very well make me cry on my departure.

I know, some of you are quite sick of hearing me yammer on about how I won't come back, maybe not for the first 6 months or year or so or whatevurrr. Thing is, i've never uttered a word on the subject of coming back for holidays to my parents BUT! They're already making plans for my bedroom. There's a probability I won't even have my own bed the next time I come back!

I'm not expecting them to preserve my bedroom as is, in fact i'm gonna pack all my stuff into neat little boxes before I go. But to not have my own personal space when I come back just seems so unreal. Hmm, but should I FAIL my driving test before I go, die die i'll be coming back in June to retake. Otherwise it'd be a huge waste of my hard earned moolah.

I actually have friends rooting for me to fail despite the obvious convenience of me driving them around. :D

;

Last night I managed to catch the sneaks of Madagascar 2. It's just as side-splittingly funny as the first. So if you didn't like the first, don't bother. Watch something gay like Sing to the Dawn instead.

It was slightly Lion King-esque, but only mildy so don't let it ruin the movie for you. King Julian and the penguins were hilarious as usual (and they were the highlight of the movie for me) so I was laughing every 2 seconds. I thought bringing back the old lady from the first movie was a bit of overkill though. Still funny la, still funny.

Was a midnight movie, and I started craving beef chilli cheese fries after so we took a cab from Tampines (after deciding against taking a Night Rider going to god-knows-where) to East Coast Big Splash. Got it take-away, and $3 for 2 Snapples and sat on the sand by the beach pigging out like little kids. After we finished it rained, so we ran back to get shelter, cos all the pondoks by the beach were occupied by... people.

We had an awesome view of the lightning, which I watched eagerly while you, cringed like a small boy after each flash. And then I fell asleep on your lap for about 10 mins, from which I SPASMED awake cos I dreamt I fell down. I covered my face, embarassed but laughing yet you thought it was the cutest thing..

At least this week I don't need to wait till the weekend.

the biennale...

Photobucket
Left me almost speechless. It was awesome, and we haven't even covered the whole thing. More photos up when i'm less tired.

Tuesday, November 04, 2008

With regards to the previous two entries.. It made me think about the whole ordeal.

When my sister told me what happened over the phone, without a second thought I left my friend's birthday party and rushed home. Determined to get my dad out by hook or by crook.

Thinking about it, turns out i'm not the most emotionally detached person I thought I was. I mean, of course, when it comes to family these things come naturally. But I thought I went cold prior to that. Cold on the inside. I could drop friends in an instant. No matter how close they were to me before. If you fuck up now, I leave you no room to make amends.

Because I simply don't care, if you don't care. It's a piece of logic one may find difficult to swallow. 3 more months.

Less depressing, more interesting things. I know this is severely overdue, but random snaps of here and there;

Abandoned French Embassy at Cluny, definitely worth a second trip for artsy shots.

Abandoned Lim Chu Kang HDB estate. Bitch and a half to find, and some unfortunate NSmen were having urban ops, which was interesting to watch for abit. Stray bullets on the floor, honking and screaming at a BMW that almost ran over a tottering pup, creepy scarecrows, rapping banglas and the last bit of Singapore that looks remotely like a kampung made it all worthwhile.

I like photos that remind us that our four-legged friends have elbows too.

Gonna be trooping around the Biennale with Rakky tomorrow, can't wait to get back into my photography proper. I have so much time on my hands now, but it'll pass quick so I gotta make the most of it. I hardly teach tuition anymore, but i've seriously made a killing so i'm pretty happy with myself.

P/s: Russell Peters was AWESOME. Aresha and I had super face cramps. He came up with the funniest jokes just on the spot from picking on random people. Those random people got to meet him afterwards! Argh!

His demeanor seems to have changed, a bit sadder. His jokes are still hilarious tho.

emo alert

The turkish consulate managed to get Pa out of the lock-up, and into a hotel. Whether he flies home tomorrow or get a visa done and presses on to Ukraine is another story.

The entry before this sounded like something really horrible. Well yeah it was, I was in a panic at the time.

After several thousand phonecalls, line extensions etc, finally he's safe and sound.

We even trooped to Changi Airport to give the Turkish Airlines fuckers a piece of our mind. But the check-in counters were empty, and the office, closed.

Anyways, haven't updated in awhile. Halloween was good stuff, had a poolside party courtesy of Vishal/Swathi/Alyssa which was hilarious up until we decided to head to O Bar. Everywhere was packed so bad Raushan and I decided to just head back.

I missed Kanye West, which makes me sad. But i'm sure i'll catch him next time around. In other news, i'm going to see Russell Peters tomorrow! Can't wait, really hope he's got some new material...

o..m....g.....

Pa was supposed to be in Ukraine by now.

Turkish Airlines fucking bastards didn't alert him that he needed a visa to enter.

He was rejected entry, so he flew back to Istanbul (his stopover).

There, he was thrown into lock-up. Passport, travel documents, clothes, EVERYTHING was taken from him.

Why? God fucking knows.

For the first time in my life, God, please help me out here. My dad is in no position to handle this sort of situation, given his medical history.

Please.

today on 5 hours of sleep

Sorry for not updating, life's back to its mundane routine.

After next week though I forsee my schedule to be opening up quite a bit. Biennale, 2nd round of watching Kumar's stand-up, here I come.

So Deepavali is on Monday. As usual, dinner thingo at my house. So if you like a good mix of Indian food, sparklers and playing on the Wii then do stop by.

I'll leave you all with the happiest song ever.

Makes me say 'YAY!!'

If everyone listened to Daedelus I think the world would really be a happier place.

eh....

I love this photo.

Cos it really reflects the dysfunction of our trip. Was just an innocent photo of Lani & I when we first stepped into the Genting theme park. Everyone else wanted a piece of the action, of course.

Although i've been doing my social life a lot of justice lately...

My body is telling me otherwise. Not good. I need to start taking better care of myself.

Oh man, yesterday, after too many vodkas and a tequila shot I started telling guys to fuck off. Literally. Damn. Could've gotten into trouble for that.

Oh my god, it's already mid-October! Once Deepavali is over, then it'd be Halloween. Then after the kid's O Levels, Chiangmai! Then after that.... Some other holiday. Plus another KL trip. Then Christmas! New Year's! Driving test! :OOOOO

Traffic jam to paradise.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

yes i'm back, and i still sound like a tranny.

Okay before I start on my trip, I just HAVE to address something which pissed me off sooo bad on Friday morning.

I was on the train to Kranji (which took over a whopping hour, coz Tanah Merah is on the other side of the country), so on the EW Line I got off at Jurong East and made my way there. Two old gross Indian men (the gangster-looking kind, NOT foreign workers) sat opposite me and started scrutinizing me from top to bottom, despite the fact that I was dressed for comfort (read: not attractive) and in jeans.

After a stop or two, a pretty Filipino girl in a short skirt sat next to the two. Big mistake of course, both Filipinos and Indians know that older Indian men are more inclined to the innocent young thangs that hang around Paramount. Not that i'm equating this girly to those that hang out at Paramount.

One of the two uglies get off, leaving the grosser of the two basically looking her up and down, pausing momentarily and her legs, her chest, her face. She, obviously feeling uncomforable, moves as far away as she can from him while still sitting on that very seat thus not exactly getting very far. He continues to leer, while she simply doesn't look in his direction.

At the same time he also decides to throw some attention my way, but doesn't maintain it for long as I was giving him a look of pure venom. This continued for about 5 stops till I finally reached Kranji and stormed off the train looking thoroughly pissed off. Okay yes, I was angry with what he was doing, yet she continued to sit there.

If you're feeling uncomfortable, don't fucking sit there! Why continue to sit there when you're obviously uncomfortable? Walk away, that's the only way to send that asshole a metaphoric slap in the face. I suppose if she wants to continue being harassed thats her prerogative. One step backwards for the human race then.

Whew.

KL was awesome. Screw shopping, we were there for cheap booze, clubs, and of course a day in Genting.

The trip there was alright, albeit the SAMAN that Renie, Hazmir (Renie's BF) and Lani ended up forking out RM50 for apiece for throwing their cigarette butts on the floor just outside Malaysian Immigration. Some guy with a very unofficial looking jacket and a mousey looking moustache demanded that the 3 hand over their passports. He then showed us the 3 cig butts he painstakingly picked up off the grubby road and led them into some unknown room, while I was left like a lost sheep worrying about them.

Ended up having small talk with a random guy working for the checkpoint with whatever street Malay I could manage without trying to sound too idiotic. He said that normally when they catch you for littering, they milk it for all its worth and could fine up to SGD$300 per person! They pocket most of it.

I couldn't believe it! If they really were fined that much, our trip's as good as over. We didn't even pay HALF that amount for this trip! And apparently the lecture was taking longer than usual.

When they finally came out, Lani told me about how he was trying to swindle money out of her cos they thought she was ang moh, after seeing her full name in her passport. She's part Dutch, but a bit watered down. Her surname's Valberg, so they kept trying to make it seem as if she was hoarding truckloads of money and they hit the motherload. When they couldn't be more WRONG HAHA.

When that bullshit was over, we took a bus to Larkin to board our coach to KL. The coach was nice looking on the outside, the inside wasn't half bad either. Except that the air con was unbelievably dehydrating and there were flies. In the bus. But after awhile the flies settled down so we couldn't see them anymore so it didn't bother us as much.

The coach pakcik dropped us at a Petronas petrol station where one of Hazmir's friends came to pick us up in his CAR OF DOOM. He was generally a nice, funny guy but when behind the wheel, it felt like my life was flashing before me. Okay i'm exaggerating. He knew the roads and how to navigate them with his l33t KL driving skillz so I guess its just the scared Singaporean in me talking.

Reached Pondok Lodge, along Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang, right in the heart of of the clubs and bars. However, it was a backpackers lodge! With a shared bathroom. No way was Ernie gonna accept this when she arrived the next day, so we hunted for another hotel for our 2nd night.

Had dinner at Lot 10, bought some cheap vodka and played dai dee on the Lodge's crappy roofgarden till about 11pm. Went to get dressed and went to partay!

First stop - Frangipani. A happening looking spot just across the road from the lodge. Mercs, BMWs were parked outside, so we thought it must be some happening VIP party. RM30 to get in, which was relatively cheap so we went ahead. The chop was of a Mr Men cartoon character, but we didn't think much of it.

We confidently walked in, hoping to see a happening crowd and some good music, but we couldn't be more mistaken. There were men, EVERYWHERE. Men in tight pants. Men checking each other out. Men dancing with each other. Not a single server was female. It felt very.... strange. We didn't mind the fact that it was a gay club, not at all. We just... didn't expect it to be one! The music wasn't good for dancing, and we felt completely out of place, considering the mood we were in.

So we left, contemplating on where to go next. Just next to the lodge was a bar that was 2 storeys. The 2nd floor looked pretty happening, we could hear the bass and people were dancing, and there were more females, so we ran back across the road to that place. Entry was FREE, the music was great and the crowd was so much fun. We danced till we were almost gonna drop from exhaustion, and we left a bit earlier than expected.

Next morning - hangover galore. I was having a horrible headache and my stomach wasn't agreeing with me. I thought my day at Genting would be ruined! But Renie introduced me to the hangover wonder that was Teh-O.

I had an egg prata and a hot milo, thinking that it'd help to have something warm and food in my stomach, but it didn't. She ordered me the Teh-O despite my extreme dislike for tea (i'm weird like that) and told me to just try and see if it works. After sipping half a glass, the headache disappeared and I felt completely fine. It was seriously amazing. The ride to Genting which I thought was gonna be nausea-inducing whizzed by like it was nothing.

The cold weather in Genting was shiookkk. You can't even see the foot of the mountain, everything's covered in clouds. We had full-day passes for the outdoor & indoor parks, as well as the water theme park, but most of the day was spent at the outdoor park.

The rest sat most of the rides out, while Lani and I rode every adrenaline-pumping ride at least twice. The Space Shot was the best. I don't know how high up we were at the top of the tower thing, but free-faling from what looked like the highest point in Genting must've been the biggest shit-my-pants scared feeling i've ever had in my LIFE.

Towards the evening more clouds descended onto the park as it got colder. It started to resemble something like a haunted theme park.

Left in the evening. Ernie came Saturday morning but didn't wanna come to Genting, spoiler woman. Took us a longer time to get back, cos the roads were covered in clouds you could hardly see what was in front of you.

We thought it'd be another night of partying, but Renie came down with the flu so we just drank in the room and called it a night. We needed to be up early for the 8am train back to SG.

Train ride was 8 hours! I can fly to fucking South Africa in 8 hours!

We finally touched homeground sometime past 5. The ride to Tanjong Pagar from Woodlands was damn interesting. Saw parts of SG i've never seen before in my life. Abandoned areas, atas condos, interesting colonial flats. Oh and lots of jungle. I suppose it beats miles and miles of oil palm plantation.

Had a huge plate of hokkien mee at the KTM before calling it a day and heading back.

Not bad la. I spent less than SGD$150. It was more awesome than it sounds okay.

Anyway, it's 4something in the am, my dad just stumbled in drunk as a sailor, and my momma's gonna have a hernia about that.

Tomorrow's the day before the O Level practical! So much tuition tomorrow it's coming out of my ears.

Thursday, October 09, 2008

my voice is low and secksay

Been having the sore throat since Monday. I've been blowing everyone off because I didn't want it to escalate to a full blown flu but turns out its just a sore throat. Still had to give tuition the past few days, and now i've almost lost my voice. I feel like i'm really straining myself everytime I speak to the kids.

Tomorrow, Kranji at 8am (wah lao) to take the bus to JB, then coach to KL. Saturday, a day in Genting, then probably partay at night. Sunday, morning train all the way back here. Short and sweet lah.

Aresha's MIA again, the new maid is fuckin' awesome (and her name is SHINOMI, beat that), my bank statement has been quite stagnant and I can't wait for tomorrow.

Monday, October 06, 2008

just briefly

Been spending more and more time at the beach. Not that I mind. Just the other night Raushan and I saw two shooting stars. Made Daniel feel like shit for not joining us.

Weekends have been pretty awesome, if not drinking then just hanging out till the wee hours and talking about all sorts of nonsense with those two.

If all goes well, I will be heading up to KL this weekend with Lani, Ernie, Renie and her boyfriend. Things have almost been finalized, so i'll be off on Friday! Can't wait for the break. Tuition weeks are now Monday through Sunday which is thoroughly exhausting. I have been spending money through my nose so after the trip I will SAVE the moolah. With the exception of shopping for clothes for Australia.

Converse Warehouse Sale was friggin' amazing. Sneakers dirt cheap, Kappa slip-ons going for $10-$15! Converse sneakers going for $20-$50 at the most. Everlast sneakers all around $30. Bought myself an awesome pair of Converse for $30, with a pretty funkay design.

Semi-regret not buying checkered loafers! Bought a black Kappa jacket and a grey Michael Jackson-inspired Everlast jacket. Crowd was madness too, but thankfully since it was so cleverly hidden away a lot of people wouldn't have bothered. Primela was with me, and she picked up two pairs of Converse - 1 for work and 1 for going out. All thanks to Mon for the tip-off!

Now I just gotta wait for the Zara end of season sale so I can buy myself a spiffy jacket. And several interesting hats. They seem to spice up my mojo on the partying circuit. On Saturday a random short (albeit not bad looking) little man named David enlightened me with what people hide under their hats in his country. I never found out where he was from, but apparently they keep chickens under their hats.

Saturday night was the usual madness with Ernie and Lani involving MOS and Chinaone. Drinks were disgustingly expensive that night, don't know why. Thank god for King Kong and free entry! :D

MOS had a mad raid that kicked everyone, and I really mean EVERYONE out of MOS. Bumped into Ungku outside and he said they're closing down for renovations, then reopening under a new name. Well they had better, they did no justice to the MOS branding whatsoever.

But to kick everyone out? Its like the most recent nights out with the girls always end shitty, but things turned around when two random drunks kept inviting us to Living Room and couldn't even get their words straight. The 3 of us were falling off the squishy chairs from laughing way too much. Ernie's such a crackup.

Was a good night regardless.
Thanks for the awesome photo Ungku! Haha Lani and her goondu face.

Long-ass week ahead before KL.. Could Friday take any longer?

seeeelamat. hari raya *familiar tune*

I got a Hari Raya fix, and i'm not even Muslim!

Cos... Ernie is awesome!

She dropped by to pick up her camera charger, and dropped off some of her mom's awesome cooking.

Some beef and chicken. I haven't tried it yet cos it's a bit late and I don't want to wake up Ash.

I have a feeling my mom might flip out cos its beef.

I suppose its a bad thing that i've resolved to being single till I leave. The loneliness is somewhat taking a toll. BUT ITS FOR THE BETTER, ARUNA. So just fuckin' deal with it.

:/
